What’s Our Story?
Hi, my name is Sunny Gurule the Founder of 1Odysea, and I am incredibly honored to be given this extraordinary opportunity.
It has been said that timing is everything in life and when this Antarctica Expedition presented itself, I truly believed, that our ship had come in.
This opportunity holds a very personal passion with a dream to become a reality. All starting at 4 years old in love with dolphins and mesmerized by the ocean.
I received my dream job as a Marine Mammal Specialist and was allowed to become one of the dolphin trainers of Winter.
During this time working with Warner Brothers and the production of the movie “A Dolphin Tale”, I was then hit with a reality I wasn't prepared for. I quickly realized our marine life was being released back into an uninhabitable environment.
Sunny & Winter
As time went by, it took a personal toll on me watching these sick and injured marine animals return to an uninhabitable environment time & time again. Some marine animals would even come back in worse shape than before.
I did what everyone seemed to do, blame someone else. The question of “Why” ringing in my head led me to realize my disgraceful behavior. I embraced the notion that if you're not a part of the the solution, then you're part of the problem, and that included me.
Becoming self-aware gave me the understanding that no one person is to blame. We all live in different paradigms and using compassion to understand one another is the start to a solution!
Thankfully the movie brought awareness to the world, and I made it my soul’s purpose to
understand how I can best serve this cause.

Hi, I'm Sanjay Prasad an Officer, and Treasurer on the Board of 1Odysea, and I am grateful to
have been selected to on this expedition.
In mid-May 2020, the chair of 1Odysea, where I had been a board member for about a year - asked me to help with some paperwork. Almost to distract me, I agreed and dove right into it.
While trading messages, some weeks later, I joked that the work should probably be done by a Treasurer or CFO. Well... A few days after that, I was informed that the rest of the board unanimously voted me in as Treasurer.
I've become invested in 1Odysea - trying to capture the many ideas and plans, attempting to lay them out, and evolve/operationalize them. Applying for this expedition and nudging the chair to apply as well are parts of that process.
My goals for my involvement with the expedition are to create another window into the
the conservation movement, access to people that are actively participating in the world’s sustainability, and engagement with people that try to do out-of-the-ordinary activities.
The Expedition itself, I’m using as an opportunity to learn how the non-profit world integrates with the for-profit world - e.g. ClimateForce partnered with Explorers Passage, meshing non-profit
activity with corporations large and small.
Networking with experienced climatologists as well as up-and-comers. As this will be a “preaching to the choir” group, the “what” and “why” will probably have rapt agreement.
I would like to spend at least a 9-month stint working with a scientific team possibly through the US Antarctic Program, People that are actively participating in the world’s sustainability, and engagement.
This voyage will allow asking the "How". We will learn what has worked in the past and present, what isn’t working now, and perhaps what we haven’t even thought of yet - nascent
technologies such as remote monitoring and artificial intelligence are perhaps tools best harnessed early by sustainability organizations.
